Motorcycle accidents can be some of the most dangerous type of motor vehicle crashes. There’s nothing to protect the rider and, often times, they are ejected from the bike during the accident. This is exactly what happened this past Saturday, August 29, 2020.
The police in Rogers, Arkansas were responding to what they knew was a crash involving 2 motorcycles. When they arrived, they found one victim lying on the road. They also found a damaged motorcycle in the grass on the side of the road.
The crash happened on S 1st Street in Rogers. A man driving a Harley FLHT was traveling in the Southbound lanes of 1st Street. He was 45-year old Gary Stennet of Welling, Oklahoma. Someone driving a Honda MX 250 was traveling in the opposite lanes. He ran a red light and slammed into Stennet.
As a result of the crash, Stennet was thrown from his bike and into traffic. He was hit by someone driving an SUV in the Northbound lanes of S. 1st Street. The car that hit the victim took off. The police believe it was a red Jeep SUV.
The man driving the other motorcycle also fled after the crash. The police know he took off on foot as he left his damaged motorcycle at the scene.
Sadly, Gary Stennet did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police are asking for the public’s help in identifying either the driver of the Honda bike or the SUV that hit Stennet.
There has been no statement from the victim’s family as of yet. However, they will likely have a legal claim against the other drivers once they are identified.
