Police responded to 3-car crash in Springdale about three weeks ago. However, they were waiting on toxicology reports to confirm that the driver was indeed under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
A man driving a 1999 Honda Accord was traveling along Butterfield Coach Road near the Emma Avenue intersection in Springdale. He lost control of his car and ended up crossing into oncoming traffic.
His vehicle pushed a Honda Civic into traffic where it was hit by a man driving a Chevy pickup truck. The driver and the passenger in the Civic were injured and taken to the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck only suffered minor injuries. However, there was a baby in the backseat of the Honda Civic.
The child was rushed to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Springdale. He was later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sadly, the child was not able to survive and died later that afternoon.
The man driving the Chevy pickup truck was 52-year old David Cook. The people in the Honda Civic were reported as 23-year old Ruby Quintana and 67-year old Guillermina Avila.
The man driving the Honda Accord, Albinta Binejal, was arrested shortly after the accident. He admitted that he had smoked methamphetamine within 12 hours of getting behind the wheel. The police also took blood so they can run toxicology reports.
Police were able to get a search warrant for both Binejal and his vehicle. They confirmed that he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He has been arrested and charged and has been denied bond.
The families of the victims will be able to file a wrongful death claim against the driver.
