Police in Gurdon received a troubling call in the middle of the night on Saturday, August 15, 2020. They were advised of a crash involving a vehicle and train on Main Street at about 12:14 am.
Apparently, 33-year old Josten Trevino was driving his 2015 Toyota in the Eastbound lanes of Main Street in Gurdon. For some reason, his car was either driving through the train crossing or his vehicle was stopped in the middle of the train crossing.
A Union Pacific train that was scheduled to come through the crossing at 12:14 am struck the young man’s vehicle. There were no witnesses to the accident. The police conducted a thorough investigation but could not confirm what exactly happened.
They do know that the weather was clear and dry. There is no indication as to what could’ve caused the crash. The police did not indicate if alcohol or drugs was a factor in the crash.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found 33-year old Trevino seriously injured. He was initially taken to the Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia. He was then transferred to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Sadly, he was pronounced dead about an hour after his arrival. His time of death was officially 11:28 am on Saturday, August 15, 2020.
The investigation was completed, and the police have released the body of the victim to his family. There has been no statement released from the family as of yet. However, depending on the results of the investigation, they may have a legal claim against the Union Pacific Railroad.
